Events

The parish participates in Pan-Orthodox Services such as Lenten Mission Vespers and Nativity Preparational services, as well as other events, picnics, and trips.  Schedules for these to be posted closer to events. 

Schedule of Services

Sunday Divine Liturgy 9:45am  (except Pascha and Old Calendar Nativity, see below) 

 

September through May, there are usually daily morning services that take place at either 7:30am or 8:30am (check with Priest for time on a specific day), except for days when he is out of town, or during Great Lent when evening services are called for.  The weekday services (served in rotation) include Nocturnes (canon to the Trinity), Matins, Hours, Pro-Liturgy, Supplicatory Services, and various services from the book of Needs upon request.    

 

Weekday Great Feasts usually are celebrated with either a morning Liturgy at 9am or a Vesperal Liturgy the preceding evening.

Holy and Great Week 2013   *Confessions will be heard after every service up through late Friday.  All service times are approximate

April 28   Palm Sunday  

9am Confessions

9:30am-10am the Mystery of Holy Unction 

10am Blessing of Palms and Triumphal Entry of the King of Kings Liturgy

11:30am Traditional Palm Sunday Luncheon

Following this, we will begin  setting up for Holy Week, including putting al l Tiki torches out and filling them.

 

April 29  Great Monday&Tuesday

8:30am-7pm Visitations, portions of Bridegroom Matins during visitations,  errand running, church and ground setup and lawnwork.

 

May 1  Great Wednesday

10:30am Bridegroom Matins with Holy Unction  *Note, Holy Unction will also be administered on Palm Sunday at 9:30am

11am Presanctified Liturgy (anticipation of the Bridegroom coming back from the Dead at midnight)  Taking down of Palm decorations, cleaning, setup for next series of services. 

 

May 2 Great Thursday&Holy Friday Evening

5:30pm Hours of Holy Thursday/Confessions

6pm-8pm Vigil Service (combined Mystical Supper Vesperal Liturgy, footwashing, and abbreviated 12 Gospel readings/ Strasti without repetitions of the readings that will be done the next day)    (note, if coming from work or school, one may still partake of communion even if late, but fast all day from meat eating less food than usual, and those in normal health strict fast at least 4 hours prior to partaking). While the Mystical Supper Liturgy is commonly served in the morning in our day in most places, the Typikon itself and the canons themselves call for it to be an afternoon or evening service, as it actually took place in the evening.

 

May 3 Great Friday&Holy Saturday Evening

9am Royal Hours of the Crucifixion--1st and 3rd hour (Christ was crucified at 9am, the biblical “third hour of the day,”). (service is about 35-40 minutes)

3pm Royal Hours of the Crucifixion 6th and 9th Hours (service 35-40 minutes).   *note, this is not the plaschanitsa/epitaphios service, which takes place at 6pm this year

5:30-6pm Confessions

6pm-7:20pm Crucifixion/Entombment Vigil Vesperal Passion service (taking down from the Cross and exposition of the Shroud/Plaschanitsa/Epitaphios) & Holy Saturday Matins (Lamentations) with Shroud/Tomb procession. This service will contain traditional Byzantine and Slavic Melodies.

May 4&5 Great Saturday & Pascha Resurrection Sunday

4pm Hours Service of Holy Saturday with Resurrection prophecy readings from the OT, and Confessions

 

*5pm-6:30pm First Resurrection (St. Basil Liturgy) [see fasting guidelines for evening reception of Communion above] This Vesperal (evening) Liturgy brings Holy Saturday Liturgically to a close and inaugurates the Vigil of Pascha. Service followed by blessing of baskets

 

10:15pm Nocturnes

 

 

*10:30pm-1am Resurrection Midnight Service

Lighting and Distribution of Paschal Light, Paschal Procession and Resurrection Matins, Hours, Resurrection Liturgy, followed by Agape meal in hall and blessing of Paschal foods/baskets (bring blankets and pillows for younger kids to sleep) [To prepare for Communion properly, eat strictly throughout the day with strict fasting rules—no meat, eggs, dairy, fish with backbone, olive oil, or alcohol, and cease eating altogether by 8pm. All of these things may be partaken of after the Liturgy is complete]

 

*Later Sunday morning and Sunday afternoon

11:30am-12:30pm Resurrection Pro-Liturgy (Obednitsa, for those not able to attend midnight vigil)

*12:40pm Agape Resurrection Vespers  *Please note time change from last posted.

*1pm   Easter Luncheon, Egg hunt, etc.  (will also bless baskets for those who did not have them blessed previously)
